Introduction

Treethorpe Limited (“Treethorpe”) is committed to conducting business ethically, with integrity and in a manner that respects human rights. Although Treethorpe is not required to publish a slavery and human trafficking statement under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we have chosen to do so voluntarily to demonstrate our commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chains.

Our Business

Treethorpe is a UK-based probate research and forensic genealogy firm providing beneficiary tracing, estate administration, asset reunification, family history research and will writing services. We work with solicitors, financial institutions, local authorities, public bodies and private individuals across the United Kingdom and internationally.

Our annual turnover is below the reporting threshold set out in the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Nevertheless, we recognise our responsibility to uphold ethical business practices and to minimise the risk of modern slavery in all aspects of our operations.

Our Supply Chains

As a professional services business, Treethorpe’s supply chain is relatively low risk and primarily consists of suppliers providing:

Information technology and software services;

Professional legal, financial and consultancy services;

Office equipment and supplies;

Property and facilities management services;

Recruitment and employment services; and

Genealogical, archival and research services.

We expect all suppliers, contractors and business partners to conduct their business lawfully, ethically and with respect for human rights.

Policies and Governance

Treethorpe is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity throughout its operations. Our policies and procedures are designed to promote ethical conduct and compliance with applicable laws.

We are committed to:

acting honestly and ethically in all business relationships;

treating all employees and workers fairly and with dignity;

prohibiting forced labour, child labour and human trafficking in any form; and

encouraging staff to report any concerns regarding unethical practices.

Where appropriate, suppliers may be required to confirm that they comply with applicable employment legislation and human rights standards.

Due Diligence

Treethorpe seeks to engage reputable suppliers and service providers who share our commitment to ethical business practices. Our due diligence measures include:

assessing suppliers before engagement where appropriate;

reviewing supplier reputation and professional standing;

using established and reputable recruitment agencies where temporary staff are required;

monitoring supplier relationships where higher risks are identified; and

incorporating contractual provisions requiring compliance with applicable laws where appropriate.

Risk Assessment

Given the nature of our professional services business, Treethorpe considers the overall risk of modern slavery within its direct operations to be low.

However, we recognise that risks may arise indirectly through external suppliers, contractors or overseas service providers. We remain committed to reviewing these risks periodically and taking appropriate action where concerns are identified.

Training and Awareness

Treethorpe promotes awareness of modern slavery amongst its employees and encourages all staff to remain vigilant to indicators of exploitation.

Employees are expected to report any concerns regarding suspected modern slavery, forced labour or human trafficking promptly so that appropriate action can be taken.

As the business grows, Treethorpe intends to introduce formal modern slavery awareness training for relevant employees.

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

Treethorpe will continue to review its procedures and supplier relationships to ensure that appropriate safeguards remain in place.

During the coming year we intend to:

continue reviewing suppliers as part of our procurement processes;

strengthen contractual commitments relating to ethical business practices where appropriate;

review internal policies to ensure they remain effective; and

provide further staff awareness on identifying and reporting modern slavery risks.
